Fur Feathers and Scales: Animal Protection Organiz

[mood |mellowmellow]

Hello All,

Thank you all so much for coming to the first meeting. Meeting times aren't set in stone yet, so please visit the forum and post your best times to meet. http://furfeathersgvsu.proboards78.com/index.cgi  We also have a livejournal, so you can add us as a friend :) http://community.livejournal.com/furfeathersgvsu/profile
For those of you who weren't able to come, no big deal. We basically just went over some ideas for what we are going to do this year. Some of these things include:

Getting trained as volunteers at the Humane Society of Kent County
An Animal Themed Book Club (ie. Marley and Me, The Good Good Pig, Animals in Translation)
Craft Nights - to include anything from scrapbooking to making animal treats!
Issues Nights- going over big issues in animal rights, current status, and legislation in law and proposed.
Pet Nights- presentations on different pets, how to care for them, why they are fun, etc.
Group outings to volunteer.

Next Meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday in the common room of Niemeyer Living Center (the honors dorm).

I have to tell you unfortunately, that I was off on the date for the next orientation for Humane Society Volunteers, but I have contacted the volunteer coordinator and expect her to get back to me soon. If we can get enough people together, maybe they would be willing to do an orientation for us. In the meantime, the shelter is looking for volunteers for a bunch of their fun upcoming events like the Howl-and-Boo! I will go over that at this coming meeting on Monday at 6 p.m.

I will also be giving you a brief lecture on the status of sheltering in America and no-kill ethics, so you can know what the current issues around sheltering are.

After that, everyone who came to the first meeting seemed pretty into baking animal treats, so we are going to do that. I only ask that you bring your own ingredients. I will be bringing ingredients for cookies for my rats and bunny, so if anyone wants to help with that, that would be fine, otherwise bring what you need, along with a bowl to mix it in if you have one. Also, if anyone can bring a blender that would be awesome. I will bring a cookie sheet and pot holders and try to bring a few other things. Extra cookie sheets would be helpful things to bring too.

Here are some websites with homemade treat recipes if you are not sure what you want to put in your treats:
